Vaccines: Medical Wonder or Health Disaster
Vaccines have always been a source of controversy. For the pharmaceutical industry, vaccination is a modern medical wonder because it helps provide immunity to disease and helps save lives.
Many concerned groups and health professionals, including osteopathic physician Dr. Joseph Mercola, however, are questioning the effectiveness, morality and safety of vaccines.
At first glance, vaccine safety and effectiveness seem to be the primary concerns, especially for parents, as every child born is expected to get some 36 shots by the age of 18 months.
But statistics show that more vaccines don’t necessarily mean healthier children.
Two decades ago, one in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, 1 child in 150 develops autism, 1 out of 6 children is learning disabled, 1 in 9 has asthma, and 1 in 450 is diabetic.
During the last 25 years, the number of children with learning disabilities, ADHD, asthma and diabetes has more than tripled because doctors have doubled the number of vaccine doses they give babies and children under the age of six.
Also, thousands of children have suffered from adverse vaccine reactions, including behavioral changes, brain inflammation, collapse, convulsion, excessive sleepiness, high fever, high-pitched screaming, mental and physical regression, shock and skin problems.
If you would follow the CDC’s recommended schedule, by the time your child starts kindergarten, he or she will have received 48 doses of 14 vaccines.
Imagine this: one vaccine injected into a 13-lb, two-month old infant is equivalent to 10 doses of the same vaccine administered to a 130-lb adult.
Public health officials have NEVER proven that it is safe to inject vaccines into infants, Dr. Mercola points out. Furthermore, they can’t explain why the explosion of neurological and immune system disorders in American children has coincided with the increased number of vaccine doses.
Vaccination Should Be a Choice, Not a Requirement
Vaccine safety is just one of the issues that need to be resolved. The fundamental issue, however, is about the right to choose; the right to informed consent.
Mercola believes that it is your moral right to say “no” to immunizations if you feel that it is in the best interest of your child.
Unfortunately, the government has the power to deny individual rights. In some states, citizens are threatened with fines and imprisonment if they do not vaccinate their children. Soldiers can even be court-martialed if they don’t take experimental vaccines.
The National Vaccine Information Council (NVIC) has been at the forefront of the vaccine safety and informed consent movement in America for the last 25 years.
If you care about the health of future generations of American children and want to stand up for your right to make informed vaccine choices, the NVIC is inviting you to attend the 4th International Public Conference on Vaccination, which will be held on October 2-4, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, Virginia (near Washington, DC).
This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about vaccine science, policy, law, ethics and politics straight from the experts, and meet vaccine safety and choice activists around the country. Register now while there are still seats available. The special rate for early registration has been extended until September 25, the week before the event.
